Depending on the project, requests may include body-worn camera or other video, audio, incident and arrest reports, dispatch or call material, photographs, logs, policies and related records held by public bodies.
Requests are scoped to material that may assist factual research. Vardwell does not assume that every record received will be published.
How material may be used
Records are reviewed as source material for factual reporting and production. Where material is published, it may be excerpted or edited and presented with relevant contextual information.
Privacy, victim treatment, provenance, rights and the distinction between source evidence and editorial interpretation are considered as part of publication decisions.
Applicable access laws
Vardwell obtains source material through public-records requests made under applicable federal, state and local access laws. “Public records” is used here as the general term; a request to a state or local agency is not necessarily a request under the federal Freedom of Information Act.
Each request should identify the records sought and may cite the law or procedure relevant to the receiving agency.
Request security
Vardwell records requests seek public records only. We do not ask agency personnel for account credentials, remote access, software installation or payment outside an agency's normal records-request process.

Published work
Vardwell is currently developing its first public factual-media projects. Published work and public channels will be linked from vardwell.com as they are released.
